The Bengals avoided what could have been a preseason disaster, as it appears quarterback Andy Dalton is fine after taking a shot to the elbow.

The quarterback was hit by Colts outside linebacker Robert Mathis on the sixth play of the game, and went down. After being checked out by trainers, he went to the sidelines, but didn’t return to the game.

I’m good, no problem at all,” Dalton told Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer. “I just took a hit on the arm, and my hand got feeling a little numb, sort of like getting hit on your funny bone. But it’s fine now. There was just no point in taking any more snaps in this particular game.”

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said at halftime that if it had been a regular season game, Dalton would have gone back in.

Coupled with the fact the preseason is now over, that’s the best news they could have received.
