Jason Witten won’t need surgery on his injured spleen, but that doesn’t mean he’ll be ready to play in five days.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that, after meeting with specialist this weeks, doctors haven’t cleared Witten to play. One source characterized Witten’s chances of playing as “not good.”

Per Schefter, doctors have explained to Witten that, unlike an injury through which he could tough it out, he would be risking serious injury by playing.

And so the question becomes whether Witten will be cleared to play in 16 days, when the Cowboys play the Seahawks in Week Two.
