Kris Durham joins Lions practice squad

While he was a wide receiver at Georgia, Kris Durham caught passes from Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford.

He’ll have a chance to do it again this season, although only in practice at the moment. The Lions have signed Durham, released by the Seahawks a year after they made him a fourth-round pick, to their practice squad, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. That leaves the Lions with two more spots to fill on their practice squad, one of which could wind up being the player dropped to make room for cornerback Drayton Florence.

Durham caught just three passes in three games as a rookie, largely because of injuries which also limited him this summer. Injury issues have dogged Durham all the way back to his college days, although his physical talents have come to overshadow his relative lack of health and production at both levels.

The Lions don’t have any pressing needs at receiver at present, although Durham could potentially force Kassim Osgood off the roster down the road if the Lions feel like they won’t miss Osgood’s presence on special teams.
