With a recent rash of players testing positive for stimulants like Adderall and Ritalin, the NFLPA has issued a warning to all players regarding the use of these medications to treat Attention Deficit Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
The players union has urged all agents to reminder their clients that they need both a prescription and an approved therapeutic use exemption in order to take these medications with risk of suspension.
The alert points out that some players are taking it in social settings, or that they are using Ritalin/Adderall that has been prescribed for a friend or a relative in order to stay awake, boost energy, or increase attentiveness.
The most important point for players to remember is that prescription isn’t enough The player also must have a therapeutic use exemption before taking the medication.
The alert comes in the wake of Browns cornerback Joe Haden’s four-game suspension for Adderall.
