Tuesday is the typical off day for players. And that’s the usual day on which teams bring in some potential new players.

So here’s a look at the first “Tryout Tuesday” of 2012, per a source with knowledge of the situation.

The Cardinals kicked tires on defensive end Andre Carter (pictured) and defensive back Greg McCoy.

The Bills, with Fred Jackson injured, looked at a trio of running backs: Jason Ford, DuJuan Harris, and Richard Murphy.

The Broncos brought in -- and signed -- center Dan Koppen.

The Lions went heavy on defensive backs, looking at nine of them: Conroy Black, James Dockery, Tyrell Johnson, David Jones, Derrick Martin, Lionel Smith, Syd’Quan Thompson, Morgan Trent, and Byron Westbrook.

The Texans tried to beef up the defensive line, looking at Remi Ayodele, Brandon Bair, Corbin Bryant, Clifton Geathers, Daniel Muir, and Jay Richardson.

The Colts brought in receiver Jeremy Ebert, defensive back Cliff Harris (former Oregon All-American), running back Davin Meggett, and linebacker Monte Simmons.

The Chiefs looked at centers Dan Gerberry and Bryan Mattison, along with tackle Dustin Waldron and a trio of tight ends -- DeMarco Cosby, Mickey Shuler, and Zack Pianalto.

The Pats brought in defensive backs David Caldwell and Chris Carr, defensive ends Jeff Charleston and Monte Taylor, receivers Jamel Hamler and DeMarco Sampson, and quarterbacks Stephen McGee and Curtis Painter.

The Saints looked at linebackers Jerrell Harris, Austin Johnson, Ernie Sims, and Nate Triplett, along with running back James Bryant.

The Bucs pondered defensive ends Everette Brown and Jarius Wynn, defensive tackle Antonio Dixon, linebacker Thaddeus Gibson, and defensive backs Coye Francis, Danny Gorrer, and C.J. Wilson.

The Redskins looked at long snapper Matt Katula, Justin Snow, and Joe Zelenka. (Snow got the job.) The Redskins also brought in receiver Kyle Nelson.

Finally, the Eagles looked at defensive tackle Terrell McClain and the Seahawks brought in linebacker Joe Holland.

The process continued Wednesday, when the Broncos worked out defensive tackles Terrell McClain, Daniel Muir, and Brian Price. Also, the Bucs looked at punters Shawn Powell, Ricky Schmitt, and Dawson Zimmerman, and the Raiders cheked out a defensive end (Brandon Bair), two defensive tackles (Swanson Miller and Kade Weston), and six long snappers (Bryce Davis, Nick Guess, Kyle Nelson, Ryan Senser, Ryan Pontbriand, and Travis Tripucka . . . Guess reportedly won the job.)

Not getting any sniffs this week (so far) were Terrell Owens, Chad Johnson, Plaxico Burress, and Kellen Winslow.
