Ex-NFL player Ian Beckles arrested in altercation with police horse

In what is believed to be the first case of ex-NFL lineman-on-horse crime since Alex Karras in Blazing Saddles, touching a police horse got former NFL player and current sports talk radio host Ian Beckles arrested.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that Beckles, an offensive lineman for the Buccaneers and Eagles in the 1990s who now hosts a Tampa radio show, was arrested and charged with disorderly intoxication after ignoring a police officer’s orders to leave police horses alone.

According to the police report, Beckles walked into the street in downtown St. Petersburg when an officer asked him to move to the sidewalk. The report says that the officer could smell alcohol on Beckles’ breath, and that Beckles responded to the request to move to the sidewalk by saying, “OK, tough guy,” and slapping the officer on the back.

Police say Beckles then began to heckle officers patrolling the area and started walking toward an officer on horseback. The officer told him to stay away, so he moved on to another horse, and another officer told Beckles, “Don’t touch the horse.”

Beckles then touched the horse. Police arrested him and booked him into the Pinellas County Jail, where he was released on $100 bail less than three hours later.

  1. What he *should have done* was get as close as he could to the horse and started taunting the officer saying “I’m not touching it… I’m not touching it”

Alas, he was too drunk for such wit.

  2. Don’t die Butternuts, I mean Buttercup. The death of an Officer of the law, feeding a diabetic horse popcorn. Idiot.

  3. When a police officer tells you to not do something, DON’T DO IT! How hard is that to understand?

  4. Maybe this incident will take him and Ron Diaz off the air here in Tampa. They are so arrogant and immature on the air and don’t even talk sports half the time. Ian is always talking about how great and manly he is. The guy refers to his house as “the scanktuary”. Ought to tell ya all you need to know about him.

  5. Really a horse? I wish the horse would of given him a nice boot to this direpectful Moron..it just keeps on getting more bizarre

  6. Not hardly a reason to be arrested. Funny they keep calling this a free country. Police think they are the Gestapo, like Goodell.

  7. Well, packman, there are plenty of flights out of the country. If you feel this way, either get the hell out or, when you really need help, call a crackhead and see where that will get you.

If the cop says not to do something, even if it seems unreasonable, DON’T DO IT. Don’t give them a reason to throw your ass in jail all because you want to act like a tough guy. Is it REALLY that complicated??

I love the people who are the first to throw decals on their cars and wear shirts whenever a local officer dies and then, when the pious aura fades, are the first to complain about “Gestapo” cops and police abuse. You can’t have it both ways, girls.

  8. Anyone else wish the two teams he had played on were the Colts and the Broncos? Oh the headline possibilities…

  9. If only the officer had been able to put a bridle on him and rode and whipped him and spurred him and run his wretched ass into the pavement.

  10. Irony is he does 3 or 4 fundraisers every year for fallen police officers. You would think they would cut him some slack for such a bs charge. Always speaks highly of police and talks about how if you dont do anything wrong you dont have to worry about police.

  11. “grudenthediva” must be a fellow revenue generator. perfect example of how ignorance paved the way to tyranny. must be why our right to own firearms is under threat. so ill have to call “grudenisadiva” clones

  12. I wonder if during his next incident the police office will think after running his record learns the subject has a previous arrest for “inappropriately touching a horse.”

Imagine a potential employer doing a background check and learning of the arrest for “inappropriately touching a horse.”

Inappropriately touching a horse is not a good thing to have on your permanent public record.

  13. Are the cops in this story the biggest douschebags you ever heard of? Sounds like he was being an annoying drunk. Back in the day, the cop would have the horse “accidentally” bump into him and knock him down. What’s wrong with the world?

    “What did you do!?”

“I only gave him some popcorn!”

    “That horse is a DIABETIC!!”

Who gives a Half Baked reference a thumbs down?

  15. Oh stop it already!!! He had a time
Limit and couldn’t thank every position coach he’s ever had!! He thanked the Bucs organization and he could and even said that he probably would forget some people and that the omission wasn’t personal!!
