In July, Broncos linebacker Elvis Dumervil was arrested for aggravated assault. No criminal charges ever were filed against Dumervil, but civil charges may now be filed against the police.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Dumervil plans to sue the City of Miami and the Miami police department for false arrest and defamation. Dumervil’s lawyer, Harvey Steinberg (who is sort of like the Broncos’ version of Tom Hagen), told Schefter that a lawsuit is coming.
Dumervil will be seeking compensation for being imprisoned and for incurring legal fees. The lawsuit will be filed before the end of the year.
