Sunday’s 27-7 loss to the Texans was a pain in the butt for Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert.
Literally.
Coach Mike Mularkey told the media on Monday that the injury originally described as a hamstring when Gabbert left the loss early turned out to be more of a “butt muscle” injury when they took a look at the problem via MRI. The tests checked out well for the quarterback and Mularkey said, via Gene Frenette of the Florida Times-Union, that the Jags expect to have him at practice this week and in the lineup against the Colts next weekend.
Mularkey also addressed the more pressing matter regarding Gabbert. That would be his performance on Sunday, when he completed 7-of-19 passes for 53 yards in an easy win for Houston. It was part of an overall offensive train wreck for Jacksonville, although the quarterback’s play always stands front and center.
“He’s going to have some learning curves every week,” Mularkey said, via John Oehser of the team’s website. “He’s still a young quarterback in the NFL.”
Mularkey also preached patience with rookie wide receiver Justin Blackmon and said that the Jaguars are in the middle of a “process.” All of which sounds like this might not be the last time the Jaguars give themselves or their fans a pain in the rear this season.
