Even though everyone initially thought Darrelle Revis was fine, there’s now far less certainty about when he’ll return.
The Jets cornerback missed the third game of his career Sunday with what was initially referred to as a “mild concussion.”
That term’s about as medically reliable as “a little bit pregnant,” so now Rex Ryan isn’t sure when Revis will be ready to deliver.
“I don’t think you can assume that,” Ryan said Monday Revis playing this week at Miami, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. “To the NFL standards, he has to pass those tests. Right now, he looks to be doing well, so hopefully he will be playing.”
Revis was cleared to exercise but wasn’t cleared for contact last week.
And when he passes tests by Jets and independent doctors, then and only then will he get back on the field.
The Jets obviously missed him. They didn’t end up needing Joe McKnight to play defense, but they needed some stops, as Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger put up a 125.1 rating against them, throwing for 275 yards and two touchdowns.
