Jaguars sign pass-catcher Maurice Stovall

The Jaguars shuffled their tight ends Wednesday, releasing veteran Stephen Spach after one game.

To replace him on the roster, they signed Maurice Stovall.

The 6-foot-5, 220-pound Stovall has generally been listed as a wide receiver, though the Jags release lists him as a tight end.

He was released by the Lions in final cuts this year, after playing for them in 2011. He caught 51 passes in his first five years in the league with the Buccaneers.

  1. I Like this move for the Jags. Stovall is not a #1 receiver, but he is great for a team with depth issues. Not terrible for special teams either.

I have seen no evidence to indicate Stovall can catch anything thrown his way at all

But, if you are in need of a Special Teams player, he is Above Average in that regard.

  3. I think they signed him because their “O” line is hurting bad with injuries. They can’t find a decent replacement so they pick up a good blocking TE and will likely be using a double TE set to help the “O” line.
