Giants coach Tom Coughlin was relieved safety Antrel Rolle was OK, but frustrated he was injured to begin with.
Rolle suffered a bruised knee when he crashed into a camera on the sidelines last night against the Panthers.
Coughlin saw NFL executive vice president of football operations Ray Anderson on his way back to the sideline after checking on Rolle, and had questions.
“I said, ‘We’re so concerned about player safety, can’t we do something about this?’ Coughlin said Friday, via Jorge Castillo of the Newark Star-Ledger. “‘Can’t we get people away from the sideline enough to that a guy going as fast as he was going and flying through the air doesn’t put his knee into a camera?’”
Rolle was trying to hurdle a photographer but clipped the camera on his way over. He didn’t return to the game, but said Friday he was fine. Photographers on the sidelines have to stay back a specified distance, but they’re not always in the clear.
Coughlin wants to move them back, apparently.
“I think that’s something we can do something about,” Coughlin said. “We ought to be able to clear the playing field so a guy can play...I don’t think he’s going to miss anything or any time, he’s not like that anyway. He’ll play with whatever, but it didn’t have to happen.”
Hopefully the poor schlep who got plowed by Rolle is OK, too, such that Coughlin’s worried about them.
