The last time Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez was picked off on the first drive of the game, the Jets went on to score 48 points.
Rex Ryan and company are likely hoping lightning strikes twice right about now. Sanchez was intercepted by Richard Marshall to end the first Jets possession of the game in Miami on Sunday. The Dolphins used a combination of Reggie Bush runs and Anthony Fasano catches to move the ball down the short field before Daniel Thomas plunged into the end zone for a 7-0 lead.
Sanchez was trying to hit wide receive Clyde Gates with a pass. Marshall made a nice play and Gates should have fought a bit harder for the ball, but the end result was a pick all the same. That’s not a good way to start for Sanchez, who is coming off a terrible game against the Steelers and the renewal of questions about the offense after the Buffalo win provided a brief reprieve.
The guy who is over Sanchez’s shoulder -- and the guy who was celebrated as a visiting player in his last visit to Miami -- started the game for the Jets. Tim Tebow lined up as a receiver on a throw to Stephen Hill. That was the same way the Jets started the Buffalo game as well, so perhaps the best is yet to come for their offense.
