Calvin Pace: We weren’t trying to hurt Reggie Bush

Jets linebacker Calvin Pace’s made some eye-catching comments about Dolphins running back Reggie Bush’s injury after Sunday’s game.

“We had to put him on out. We didn’t see him again,” Pace said.

Those words resonate the wrong way in the post-bounty scandal NFL, although the league is not expected to take any disciplinary action toward Pace. Someone must have told him that the comments weren’t being received in a good light because Pace started his Monday media availability by trying to clarify his Sunday comment so that no one thought he meant malice toward Bush.

"[Before I] answer any question about any game stuff, apparently, I said something about Reggie Bush trying to get him out of the game,” Pace said in comments distributed by the team. “I wasn’t trying to say it as if we were trying to hurt him. I’m sad to see him get hurt. We aren’t running any kind of bounty system or anything like that, and actually, looking at the play, somebody just fell on his knee. That’s all I have to say. I guess I need to say things in a different manner, and I’ll do a better job of it next time.”

Bush was hurt in the course of a perfectly routine football play so there’s no reason to think this will go any further.
