If your offense is going to turn it over three times and your defense is going to have to carry your team, it would be nice if they got some help on special teams.

Instead, the Cowboys sent 10 men on the field twice in last week’s win over the Bucs, dodging bullets both times, according to Tim McMahon of ESPNDallas.com.

While neither a punt return or a field goal block unit cost the Cowboys a big play, it does point to some of the fundamental breakdowns that have plagued them.

It’s hardly an accident they’re the league’s second most-penalized team, and they have three players in the top four in the league in false starts (Tyron Smith leads the league with five, right tackle Doug Free is tied for second with four and tight end Jason Witten is tied for fourth with three).
