The protests have begun from angry Packers fans who are demanding that the NFL end the referee lockout, after a Monday night debacle in which the replacement officials gave the Seahawks a touchdown on the final play -- and gave the Seahawks a game that the Packers thought they had won.
A small group of Packers fans turned out at Lambeau Field this morning, holding signs demanding that the regular officials return.
“I’m disappointed with the integrity of the game,” Packers fan Tyler Detke told the Green Bay Press-Gazette as he stood outside the stadium holding a sign denouncing the NFL.
With fans holding up signs with slogans like “We were robbed in Seattle,” cars driving by on Lombardi Avenue honked their horns in support.
“We’re trying to get the refs back. With the refs that we have now, they’re not qualified to do the job like the other refs are. They’re high school and college officials,” Packers fan Seth Wagnitz said. “We really need the refs back because now it has cost us a game and that shouldn’t be happening.”
A protest in Green Bay will obviously be met with support, but the people who need to make the decisions to end the lockout aren’t in Green Bay. So far, there’s been no indication that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is listening to the fans.
