White House applauds end of lockout

When a labor dispute lands on the desk of the President, it’s a big deal. (Just ask the air traffic controllers.)

The lockout of the NFL’s officials caught the attention of the Oval Office when it reached the boiling point on Tuesday (even though as a fan of the Bears the Commander-in-Chief should have been happy with the outcome of the Seahawks-Packers game), and now that the lockout is over Barack Obama is celebrating along with everyone else.

“The president’s very pleased that the two sides have come together,” White House spokesman Jay Carney said. “It’s a great day for America.”

We doubt that it meets that standard when considered in connection with the challenges facing the country. But for sports fans, it’s definitely a great day.
