While the Ravens were holding on to beat the Browns 23-16 in the fourth quarter on Thursday night, they watched one of their best offensive players limp off the field.
Wide receiver Torrey Smith, who had six catches for 97 yards and a touchdown, left the field under his own power but with a pronounced hitch in his step late in Thursday’s win. He didn’t reappear after leaving the game, although there wasn’t much offensive work left for the Ravens at that point in the proceedings. Tandon Doss replaced Smith in the lineup.
After the game, Smith was asked about the injury. According to Jason Butt of CBSSports.com, Smith passed on an opportunity to discuss what was wrong with his leg. All Smith would say was that he was “all right,” which is probably enough to quiet any fears right now.
By playing on Thursday night, the Ravens will have extra time to prepare for their game against the Chiefs in Week Five. Unless further examination discovers something more serious wrong in Smith’s leg, it seems like a good bet that Smith will be on the field to continue what’s been a very strong start to the 2012 season.
