Jets owe Holmes $7.5 million guaranteed next year

It’s safe to say that the Jets fear receiver Santonio Holmes has a torn ACL.  (Where do I apply for the Pulitzer?)

A week ago, the Jets lost cornerback Darrelle Revis to a torn ACL.  His injury complicates a contract situation that could result in Revis proving that he still has “it” in 2013 — and walking away via a contract that prevents the Jets from using the franchise tag in 2014.

Now, with Holmes potentially gone for the year and facing a strenuous rehab process that will require hard work and entail plenty of frustration, the reality is that the Jets already owe him $7.5 million next year, regardless of whether he’s healthy or effective.

Meanwhile, the loss of arguably the best offensive player along with the best defensive player in back-to-back weeks means that the Jets could be teetering on the brink of an implosion.  And then the question becomes whether anyone will be getting fired when they just end the season.

  1. Will the Jets sign Plaxico Burress, Chad Johnson, Terrell Owens or all 3? Probably not as they try to develop their young wide receivers on the way to 3-13.

  2. This is why the Jets are who they are. You take a middle of the road wide receiver, claim he is number one option and then get screwed on on the contract.

  3. I remember…and will never forget…jets fans cheering orgasmically when Brady went down for year with knee injury…sickest damn thing I ever saw….Made me feel the only way they’d ever win a thing, was through someone getting hurt.

Revis, Holmes, …and more going down serious payback for all these years of nothing but mouth…nothing but mouth.

  4. Sanchez needs to sit down, and don’t think Tebow should replace him. The best QB on that team is McElroy. He should be the starter, and if you want a change up, use Tebow. I think Sanchez has proven he’s not the guy to run that so-called offense.

  5. Time to call T.O or Ocho, hell maybe they should call both after todays horrific performance,L.O.L !!!! Even though my Bills lost to the Patriots today, they still scored points!!! The AFC East will be a crazy division this year!!!

  6. I really wish you people would quit wishing for Rexy to leave. The three other teams in the Division never had a better chance of succeeding than they do now with Rexy in charge. The guy is the worst talent evaluator ever.

  7. Why are people calling for Rex? 3 years as HC NEVER a losing record and a 4-2 playoff record. Those are some good stats honestly. Are there problems with the team? Absolutely, but the issues cant be put 100% on Rex. Mike T deserves some of that as well.
