Andy Reid says Michael Vick, Nnamdi Asomugha are okay

After all the concern about the toll all the hits Michael Vick has taken could have on the quarterback’s physical condition, there would be something quite ironic about him suffering a serious injury on a play that saw him go to the turf instead of trying to extend a play.

While Vick did bang up his knee a little bit while sliding down on the Eagles’ final offensive play of their 19-17 win over the Giants, he has avoided serious injury. Coach Andy Reid said at his Monday press conference that Vick suffered a knee contusion on that play, but that he expects Vick to be fine and that he’s “up and moving” well on Monday. Reid said he expects Vick to practice Wednesday.

Reid also gave an update on the condition of cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, whose status for the game was left in a confused state when the team said he’d be going to the hospital after getting poked in the eye by Giants wide receiver Ramses Barden only to return to the game a few minutes later. Asomugha never actually went to the hospital and finished the game on the field, which suggested things were okay with his eye and Reid offered confirmation of that on Monday.

“Yeah, Nnamdi’s okay. He finished the game okay and he’s okay today. We were lucky we had a specialist right there, so we were able to take care of that,” Reid said in comments distributed by the team. “They gave him drops to put in there last night afterwards and he’ll be reevaluated against tomorrow. It takes about 24 hours for the drops.”

Reid also said that he expects left tackle King Dunlap to return to practice this week. Dunlap has missed the last two games with a hamstring injury, leaving Demetress Bell to receive less than stellar reviews for his work as a fill-in.
