Rams kicker “Young G.Z.” earns NFC special teams player of week

Rams rookie placekicker Greg Zuerlein has been a sort of underground, early-season sensation. He’s been booming long kicks left and right, and along the way earned nicknames ranging from “Legatron” to “Young G.Z.”

We like Young G.Z. the best.

For his Week Four efforts against the Seattle Seahawks, Zuerlein earned another accolade, garnering NFC special teams player of the week honors. Versus Seattle, Zuerlein nailed all four of his field-goal attempts and broke the Rams’ franchise record for longest field goal, twice. His field goals came from 28, 48, 58, and 60 yards out.

Zuerlein recently suggested his range is around 65 yards. Based on ESPN Stats & Information, ESPN NFC West blogger Mike Sando has made the case that Zuerlein is the difference between the Rams’ record being at 2-2 as opposed to 0-4 by “converting punts into points.”

We’ll all get a great look at Zuerlein when the Rams face the Cardinals on Thursday Night Football this week.
