Peyton says it’s his wife who’s trying to buy a piece of the Grizzlies

Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning says the report that he’s trying to buy a piece of the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies isn’t quite right: According to Manning, it’s his wife, Ashley, who is the investor in the group trying to buy the Grizzlies.

In statements released by the Broncos, both Ashley and Peyton said that the wife is investing in basketball while the husband focuses on football.

“I am proud of Ashley as she pursues this opportunity with the Memphis Grizzlies,” Peyton’s statement said. “While my focus is on playing quarterback for the Denver Broncos, I look forward to watching her become involved with her hometown team.”

Ashley indicated that her interest in the Grizzlies is largely about keeping the team in town, with local ownership.

“I am very excited to make the commitment to join the potential new ownership group of the Memphis Grizzlies,” Ashley Manning said. “As a native of Memphis, it was important to me that the Grizzlies remain in Tennessee and continue to have a positive impact on the community.”

There’s no word on how much money the Mannings are investing or what percentage of the Grizzlies they’ll own. But to the extent that either half of the couple is spending time on this project during the football season, it’s going to be Mrs. Manning.
