The Lions continue to struggle on defense, with no interceptions through four games. When they return from their annual week off, there’s reason for optimism.

Safety Louis Delmas returned to practice before the mandatory bye-week break. Per a league source, Delmas will continue to practice this week, in anticipation of playing in what amounts to a must-win game next Sunday against the Eagles.

Delmas had knee surgery in August, and he has yet to play in a game this season. The fourth-year veteran missed one game as a rookie, one game in 2010, and five in 2011.

The Lions are 1-3, and they easily could have been 0-4.
