Pagano remains very involved with the Colts, from his hospital room

Like the Saints, the Colts don’t have immediate access to their head coach.

Unlike the Saints, the Colts can hear from their head coach on a regular basis. And they apparently will.

Chuck Pagano remains hospitalized while he undergoes treatment for leukemia. As Peter King of SI.com explained during halftime of the Miami-Notre Dame game on NBC, Pagano’s involvement includes letting interim coach Bruce Arians know whether the elect to receive or to defer the choice if the Colts win the opening coin toss on Sunday against the Packers.

Pagano also has been communicating with the team. His email was displayed to the players on Saturday, and Pagano has sent a separate email to the Indianapolis Star.

All is good,’'Pagano wrote. “Best care in the world. These people do so much for so many. Most selfless people I know.”

Pagano also had a message for the fans: “May the 12th Man be stronger than ever. You will make a difference. Need to hear you from C23! Room at Simon Cancer Center. . . . LET’S HUNT!”

They’ll be hunting for cheese on Sunday, as the Packers arrive at Lucas Oil Stadium for Sunday’s game. A win would move the Colts to 2-2, matching their entire victory total for all of 2011.
