Cardinals fill roster spot, but not with another RB

The Cardinals placed running back Ryan Williams on injured reserve this morning, but they didn’t fill his spot with another running back.

Instead, they brought back cornerback Crezdon Butler, according to Darren Urban of the team’s official website.

The Cardinals are apparently confident with LaRod Stephens-Howling, William Powell and Alfonso Smith at running back, knowing they’re about six weeks away from a possible Beanie Wells return.

That’s a risky proposition, given the state of the Cardinals offensive line, as the guys they have back there now don’t exactly cause opponents to game-plan away from pressuring a porous offensive line. That’s just going to make things harder on Kevin Kolb or John Skelton or whoever’s back there.

Butler, who they released in final cuts, represents some insurance for injuries at corner, as Greg Toler and Michael Adams could be limited when they resume practice.
