When Titans running back Chris Johnson got off to a brutal start this season, he said he’s only as good as Tennessee’s offensive line. So it’s only fair that after a good game Thursday night against the Steelers, Johnson praised the line.
Johnson, who had 19 carries for 91 yards and added four catches for 23 yards, said after the game that the line deserves credit.
“They did a tremendous job, getting on those guys up front and pushing them back and giving me some room to run,” Johnson said. “If I’m not doing what I have to do and they’re doing what they have to, it’s not going to work. And if I’m doing what I need to do and they’re not, it’s going to work either. So we need each other.”
Johnson’s totals through six games this season -- 92 carries for 301 yards, a 3.3-yard average and no touchdowns -- are nowhere near good enough for one of the highest-paid running backs in the game. But the win over the Steelers represents progress, both for Johnson and the for the guys who block for him.
