The news on Ray Lewis’s arm injury is every bit as bad as feared.
The Ravens have confirmed what Jay Glazer of FOX Sports first reported: An MRI on Lewis showed a complete tear of the triceps, meaning Lewis is done for the year.
For the Ravens, that’s a major blow: Although Lewis may not be playing at quite the same level as he was when he was the best defensive player in football a decade ago, he’s still a good linebacker and the team’s unquestioned leader. That’s a hard player to replace.
For Lewis, the question now is whether he’ll ever play football again. There was some talk that this could be Lewis’s final season even before he suffered this injury, and a torn triceps is a tough injury to recover from. This is surely not the way Lewis wants his career to end, but it is possible that one of the greatest players in NFL history played his final game on Sunday against the Cowboys.
