Terrell Suggs starts, shows no signs of rust

AP

Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs is back on the field for the first time since sufferig a torn Achilles tendon during the offseason, and he looks none the worse for wear.

Suggs started in the Ravens’ defense and was on the field for all three plays as the Texans went three-and-out on their first offensive possession. The first two plays were runs in Suggs’ direction, and although Suggs didn’t make the tackle on either play, he held his ground and didn’t get pushed off the ball.

The Texans’ third offensive play was a pass, and Suggs leapt into the air and tried to knock it down, just missing the ball. That leap didn’t look like it came from a guy who’s recovering from a serious injury.

Whether Suggs can hold up for a whole game, or whether he needs some time to get into football shape, remains to be seen. But on the first series, Suggs didn’t look rusty.

UPDATE 1:26 p.m. ET: On his seventh play, Suggs recorded his first sack of the season. Yes, Suggs is back.
