Punters don’t get enough love from the people who give out awards, but Andy Lee of the 49ers got his Wednesday.

Lee was named NFC special teams player of the week after a strong outing in last Thursday’s win over the Seahawks.

He averaged 45.6 yards on five punts, with a 44.6 net (which means he enabled his coverage to get there in time to prevent a return). Four of the punts made the Seahawks start inside their own 20.

The best was the last one, which made the Seahawks start a potential game-tying drive at their own 11 with 1:48 left in the game.

Lee set the league record with a 44.0-yard net average last year.
