Kevin Kolb: I wanted to play through injuries, but I couldn’t

Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb knows from personal experience that sometimes when you miss playing time because of an injury, your job is gone by the time you’re ready to play again. So Kolb says that he resolved this year not to let any injury keep him off the field.

And then he suffered a rib injury and found out that he simply couldn’t play through it.

“I told myself at the beginning of the year, that if I get another shot I’m not coming out of the game,” Kolb told the Arizona Republic. “I was going to play through whatever it takes to stay on the field. That’s what this league is all about. True professionals have to be able to do that. Unfortunately, I was dealt a blow that I can’t necessarily play through.”

Kolb says he’s not sure when he’ll be able to get back on the field, but he does expect to be back at some point this season.

“I can’t say for sure,” Kolb said. “It’s never even crossed my mind that I won’t be back at some point this season.”

Unfortunately for Kolb, as he has learned in the past, getting healthy might not be enough: If John Skelton plays well, Kolb might not play again at any point this season.
