Surgery is an option for Greg Jennings

The Packers have been hopeful that rest would be enough to get wide receiver Greg Jennings’ groin healthy enough to return to the field, but there may be a need for another course.

Coach Mike McCarthy revealed one possible option during an interview with Adam Schein of Sirius XM NFL Radio on Thursday. McCarthy said he had met with Jennings on Thursday morning and that Jennings is going through all of the options for how to proceed with an injury that hasn’t made much progress. McCarthy said that surgery was one of the options that was on the table.

It would not be a season-ending operation, which suggests that sports hernia surgery could be on the table. That fits with Jennings’ trip to a specialist in those kinds of injuries in Philadelphia earlier this week and would help explain why rest has not done much of anything to alter Jennings’ outlook in recent weeks.

If so, that would keep Jennings out for a few more weeks before he’d be able to get back to work. With the Packers passing game clicking on all cylinders the last couple of weeks, that might not be the worst thing in the world if it means that Jennings is able to be back to full health when he actually returns to the field.
