DeMarco Murray doesn’t practice, Cowboys won’t rush him

It looks like the Cowboys will be without running back DeMarco Murray again this week.

Murray did not practice for the Cowboys on Wednesday as he continues to recover from a sprained foot that has kept him off the field since he originally suffered it in Week Six against the Ravens. Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said earlier this week that the team was taking it day-to-day with Murray, but one of the guys a little further up the food chain indicated that the outlook is taking a slightly longer view of the situation.

Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said in an interview with 105.3 The Fan on Wednesday that the team is in no hurry to get Murray back on the field if it means that he’s going to be at less than full strength when he does return to action.

“On some of these injuries, if you push them, all you do is set them back. You might get them out there for 10 plays and then he gets out there and he’s looking down and it’s just not quite holding up. So, you really got to make sure, especially at these skilled spots -- running back or receiver or corner -- that they’re really ready to go,” Jones said, via the Dallas Morning News. “We’ve had DeMarco in a boot for two weeks, on crutches. Now he’s getting out of that. But he’s a tough guy and no one wants to be out there more than him. But we just can’t afford to put him out there if he’s not going to be 110 (percent).”

The Cowboys won their first outing without Murray and their loss to the Giants was a game they could have and probably should have won so the team clearly isn’t left without any hope because Murray is out of the lineup. Life would still be better with him, although it remains unclear when they will get him back.
