Through the first eight weeks of the 2012 season, the Patriots offense has been the best in the NFL.

They are gaining the most yards per game and scoring the most points per game thanks to a high-paced attack that has fired on high cylinders most weeks this season. Quarterback Tom Brady isn’t satisfied with the current level of production, though. He thinks the team has room to improve when they return from their bye week.

“I hope so. I hope we make improvements,” Brady said, via the Boston Herald. “There’s still a lot of football left. We’re 5-3 so that tells you we’ve been a little bit up and down. It hasn’t been terrible. It hasn’t been great and we have a lot of room for improvement, so we’ll see how that goes over the course of the next eight weeks. I’m not going to make a bunch of predictions. We’ll leave that to you guys. We have to go out there and do it. We have to go out there and earn it. That’s part of why we play. The enjoyment of playing is to go out there and do something about it, not just talk about it.”

If the offense does get more effective in the second half, it won’t be good news for the defenses of the AFC. If their defense doesn’t improve, a need the team tried to address by dealing a fourth-round pick for cornerback Aqib Talib on Thursday, it still might not be enough to get the Pats back to the Super Bowl.
