On Friday’s injury report, Seahawks guard James Carpenter was listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Vikings with an illness.

The “illness” turned out to be a concussion.

Danny O’Neil of the Seattle Times reports that Carpenter has been scratched, with a concussion. He first appeared on the injury report on Friday as being limited in practice. Per O’Neil, it’s unclear when the concussion occurred.

The sudden change in both Carpenter’s status and his condition suggests one of two realities. Either testing resulted in the conclusion that Carpenter actually has a concussion, or the Seahawks had tried to keep Carpenter out of the concussion program by not calling it a concussion and ultimately decided not to play games with the situation.

We’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. The fact that four teams have been fined so far this year for fudging the injury report justifies suspicion, however.
