Jeremiah Trotter tells Jason Babin: “Dude, get a grip”

Eagles defensive end Jason Babin was angered by some of the things he heard the Philly fans saying during last week’s loss to the Falcons. One of Babin’s former teammates is angered that Babin is worrying about what’s being said in the stands when he should be focusing on what’s happening on the field.

Former Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter said on 97.5 The Fanatic that Babin needs to stop getting upset about the fans ripping the team and channel his energy toward playing in a way that will make the fans cheer.

“Dude, get a grip, this is football,” Trotter said, via Phillymag.com. “You’re a man. Why are you worried about what people say anyway? I understand that players have feelings, but you’re a man. You’re playing a gladiator sport, and you’re running around worried about what fans are talking about? Even if I did feel a certain way you would never hear me say it because number one, you are showing your weakness right there. You’re playing a gladiator sport, dude. Go play ball.”

Trotter pointed out that complaining about the fans isn’t going to change the way the fans act, but turning it into an issue might serve as a distraction to the team.

“When I hear some of this talk man it really, really pisses me off,” Trotter said, “because you’re focused on the wrong thing. You should be focusing this week on the Saints, not focusing on what the fans are saying, or putting things on Twitter saying this or that. Come on, dude. Go out and win some games. Let the fans do what they’re gonna do. Fans are still going to be fans, and they have every right to boo you if you don’t go out and put a good product on the field.”

Babin may be right that some of the fans crossed the line by saying vile things about players and coaches. But Trotter is also right that if the players are worried about what the fans are saying, then they’re worried about the wrong things.

  1. Trotter is what a real Eagle player is. If you want to cry Babin go to the Cowboys. This team is full of cry babies.

  2. The heart on that defense officially died when the last of the Ray Rhodes drafted defenders (Trotter, Dawkins, Reese) left the team.

  3. I think both of them need to get a grip and realize that the eagles suck and will never win anything in my life time.

  4. Could not agree more. You know the best way to get the fans to stop hurting your feelings, play better and change the way they are talking that way.

  5. I am worried that you are too worried about Trotter worrying about Babin being worried, about the fans …. I wonder if Babin wonders why Trotter is wondering why Babin is Worried? Weird how wondering if we are all worried about players worrying about fans being fans is anything to actually worry about!

  6. Good lord, the Ray Rhodes glorification has got to end.

The last time unchecked trotter was still peeling deuce mccallister’s cleat prints off his front side and Sean considine off his back side. He never brought a super bowl ring to Philly either.

  7. Trotter is what a real Eagle player is. If you want to cry Babin go to the Cowboys. This team is full of cry babies.

Funny, your feeble franchise couldn’t win with him either. As if you guys are any better than that other feeble franchise in Dallas. But at least Dallas has some hardware in their trophy case.

And pro football used to be a gladiator sport, now it’s a glorified fantasy flag football league.

  8. The same opinions make Eagles fans passionate but KC fans crazy and unlikeable… Eric Winston says they aren’t gladiators and he gets a pat on the back from the national media. Trotter acknowledges they are gladiators and people get pumped up… The difference between small market remarks and large market remarks are hilarious. That all said, Trotter chose a paycut to stay in Philly over playing in KC…

  9. What a difference five years and the loss of all the veteran leaders/Jim Johnson makes, in every way really — scheme, performance, accountability, attitude, effort.

I’ve been very troubled by the anti fan attitude that seems to be pervasive on the team right now. Babin, Avant, and Jackson to name a few have made some really negative comments about fans in the last year.

Eagles fans are passionate, and they pay their hard earned money to support the franchise. I’ve never heard of an Eagles home game threatened to be blacked out. I think any rational person finds the obvious mistakes Reid makes year after year that sink would could be otherwise contending teams maddening.

Guys like Trotter understand fans pay their salaries, and you have to look in the mirror when you’re not getting the results you want rather than complain about fans not being satisfied with your play.

  10. You haven’t won a game since September, it’s now November. Start winning and the fans (including myself) will stop booing. Just get it right and stop putting crap out on the field. Stop embarrassing yourselves and your fans.

  11. gladiator sport??? i think it’s time trotter get a grip. i’m sure gladiators were allowed to miss a fight with turf toe.

  12. “I AM a man, I have tattoos on my arms” – Jason Babin

Love that Trotter put this guy in his place. If you want the glory that comes with winning, you need to take the heat that comes with losing. The Eagles have been selling the fans a Porsche, but delivering an old Saturn instead.

———————————————————————————– Yep Trotter is what a real Eagles player is, has no Super Bowl ring just like the rest of the eagles players from here to eternity. On the other hand the Cowboys have WON the Super Bowl. But I do agree the eagles are full of cry babies.

  14. In essence, Babin empowered the antagonizing fans by letting them know that their barbs were effective.

This is like throwing gasoline on the fire. Telling them to class it up, is like letting an internet troll know they’re getting under your skin. Just fanning the flames — very counter-productive to Babin’s stated purpose(s).

  15. I dont agree with the drunken idiots talking about someones family but come on dude your making 5.575 million dollars. Thats a weekly check for $107,211 before taxes. Act like a professional

  16. Babin is just a merc. He doesn’t represent Philadelphia at all. Shut up and quit acting like you are something special because you can get a few meaningless sacks while the team loses week after week because YOUR defense cant stop anybody.

Trotter is 100% right. Sack up, Babin!

  17. Trotter was always a LOT better at talking than playing… a legend in his own mind. Enough of the gladiator/warrior/soldier comparisons, it’s just preposterous, a grand total of one guy has died on an NFL field, forty years ago, you bleeping clueless idiot. Go spend some time with vets, Mr. Gladiator, you champion poseur of all time.

He did leave behind most of the core players during the prime years of the Andy Reid era (2000-2004): Duce Staley, Tra Thomas, Jermane Mayberry, Hollis Thomas, Hugh Douglas, Troy Vincent, Bobby Taylor, Brian Dawkins, Koy Detmer (only saying this because he was Akers’ security blanket for those years), Al Harris, Ike Reese and Trot.
