Record day brings Andrew Luck player of the week honors

Colts quarterback Andrew Luck did something no rookie quarterback has ever done before on Sunday.

Luck threw for 433 yards, the most of any rookie in history and the most by any AFC quarterback this season, and led the Colts to a 23-20 win over the Dolphins. The win lifted the Colts to a 5-3 record on the season, good enough to make the playoffs if they started today, and preceded one of the more memorable postgame locker room speeches in recent memory.

The accolades probably won’t stop here for Luck. He’s topped 300 yards in four games already this season, tying him with Peyton Manning, who was the last Colts quarterback to take home player of the week honors, for the most of any rookie in history.

Luck may only give himself a “C” for his work this season, but it is unlikely anyone else is grading him on such a harsh scale. The first overall pick of the 2012 draft has proven to be up to the task through his first eight games and as long as that continues, this won’t be the last time his play ranks as the best of a given week.
