The beating they absorbed from the Ravens was so profound, the Raiders couldn’t even muster indignation.
In ordinary settings, the fake field goal that pushed the lead to 48-17 (it ended up 55-20) might have offended the delicate sense of fair play many have. The Raiders, however, didn’t seem upset.
“Nothing surprised me,” Raiders coach Dennis Allen said, via Jerry McDonald of BayAreaNewsGroup.com. “Our job is to stop them, and we have to stop them.”
“We’re all grown men,” Raiders cornerback Michael Huff said. “If they run it, we’ve got to stop it.”
Raiders defensive tackle Tommy Kelly turned the tables on a reporter, asking if he’d call a fake field goal late with a huge lead. When the answer was negative, Kelly replied: “OK. But at the end of the day. We’ve got to stop it. So that’s all that matters.”
Ravens punter Sam Koch ran 7 yards for the touchdown, a trick play they had installed earlier in the week to use if they saw a specific look from the Raiders.
Asked if he noticed the Raiders being upset, Koch replied: “Not that I know of. I was too busy doing high-fives and spiking the ball.”
Ouch.
The only thing worse than getting the score run up on you is getting trash-talked by a punter, but the Raiders had no defense.
