In what could be a strong to quite strong hint that guard Logan Mankins will miss some time with an ankle injury suffered on Sunday against the Bills, the Patriots have signed free-agent guard Mitch Petrus.
The team announced the move on Tuesday.
Petrus was waived by the Giants earlier this month, when the defending Super Bowl champs needed to create a roster spot for tight end Travis Beckum. A fourth-round pick in 2010, Petrus appeared in six games this season and six games with three starts in 2011.
He also appeared in every postseason game, including New York’s win over New England in Super Bowl XLVI.
Mankins was seen leaving Gillette Stadium in a walking boot after Sunday’s game.
