DeMarco Murray says “a chance” he’s back this week

Running back DeMarco Murray is getting close to being able to return for the Dallas Cowboys.

Murray has missed the Cowboys’ last four games with a sprained foot suffered against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 6. Murray officially did not practice on Wednesday, but was dressed in shorts and helmets along with the rest of his teammates according to Schuyler Dixon of the Associated Press.

According to Dixon, Murray said he thinks he has “a chance” to play against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

“This is the best I’ve felt mentally coming in after working out,” Murray said. “I feel good.”

Murray has appeared in just five games for the Cowboys this season. For the year, he’s carried the ball 75 times for 330 yards and a touchdown. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday that they want to be cautious and not put Murray back on the field until he’s ready to go.

But Murray’s foot is improving and the Cowboys could use him back as soon as possible. Dallas is averaging just 85.3 yards a game on the ground, which is just 29th out of 32 teams.

“Today and this week is the best I’ve felt,” Murray said. “Once I feel like I can help this team and be ready to go and play like I’m accustomed to playing, I’m going to get out there.”
