When writing about tight end Aaron Hernandez practicing for the Patriots on Thursday, we included a reminder that Hernandez’s practice status wasn’t a great predictor of his ability to play in that week’s game.
It looks like this week will provide more evidence of that. Hernandez was a participant at practice again on Friday, but Albert Breer of the NFL Network reports that Hernandez will miss a third straight game when the Patriots face the Colts on Sunday.
Hernandez originally injured his ankle in Week Two and missed three games before returning against the Seahawks on October 14. He played the next week against the Jets, but didn’t travel to London with the team for their game against the Rams and did not play last week. Given the disconnect between his practice and game statuses and the Patriots’ tight lips about injuries, there’s not much way to know when he’ll be back.
Guard Logan Mankins remained out of practice for the Patriots Friday, while wide receiver Wes Welker and guard Dan Connolly returned after missing the last two days.
