On several occasions, Colts interim coach Bruce Arians has said that head coach Chuck Pagano could return from leukemia treatments by the final game of the regular season, on December 30 at home against the Texans.

Pagano could be back sooner than that.

Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that Pagano is ahead of schedule, given the success of his chemotherapy treatments for leukemia. The final treatment starts Friday.

That doesn’t mean Pagano will be cleared to come back before December 30, but it’s making December 30 look more and more like a sure thing.

We wish Coach Pagano all the best as the most inspirational story of the 2012 NFL season continues to push toward a very happy ending.
