Bears add Gurode, dump Okoye

The Chicago Bears have done some roster churning on Tuesday, a day after placing starting guard Lance Louis on injured reserve.

Louis will be replaced by veteran lineman Andre Gurode.  He spent nine years with the Cowboys and one with the Ravens, starting 127 games.  Perhaps best known for having his forehead shredded with the cleat of Albert Haynesworth in 2006, Gurode had been out of football this season.

To make room for Gurode, the Bears released defensive tackle Amobi Okoye.  A former first-round pick of the Texans (that’s two former first-round picks of the Texans who were cut on Tuesday), Okoye spent 2011 with the Bears, signed with the Bucs in the offseason, and returned to the Bears in late August.

He can now return to the Bucs.  Or the Texans.  Or anywhere else, if he clears waivers.

  1. Damn. I liked Okoye, he was pretty good in the limited time he played with the Bears.

But I don’t think Gurode will make much of an impact…we’ll see how this plays out.

  2. I was wondering the other day what happened to this guy. Thought he would have been better. He’s still probably pretty young though so maybe…

  3. At this point I wouldn’t mind have open tryouts for the Bears offensive line. Some random fat guys couldn’t be much worse than Carami and Webb.

  4. The Falcons should bring him in as a “What if….” kind of thing ‘cos back in 2007 the Falcons took BUST DE Jamaal Anderson at #8 in the Texans switcheroo flip-flop of #1 picks with the Texans in the follically-challenged Matt Schaub trade that initially looked for for Houston but fizzled afterward. DT’s are hurting so just write those checks Arthur Blank. A blind doberman finds a nut every once in a while.

  5. Schiano’s List:
    Winslow – attitude – gone
    T. Jackson – druggie – gone
    Brian Price – personal issues/injury – gone
Dez Briscoe – attitude – gone
    Okoye – injuries – gone
Aquib Talib – all kinds of issues – gone

All but Okoye were starters from our 2011 team and we don’t miss any of them….

I love what Schiano is doing in Tampa…
