The Colts are going to be in the market for some help on the defensive line over the final five weeks of the season.
Coach Bruce Arians said that the knee injury suffered by defensive lineman Fili Moala in Sunday’s win over the Bills will end his season and rookie defensive tackle Josh Chapman tweeted Tuesday that the team is placing him on injured reserve as well.
Moala started eight games for the team this season and recorded 14 tackles. He’s been a staple in the starting lineup since the 2010 season and is set to become a free agent after the season.
“Obviously it’s a blow because Fili was playing extremely well for us,” Arians said, via 1070 The Fan. “We’ll pick up the pieces and go on with the defensive line. We’ve had so many injuries there this year that we’ve built some depth. We’ll just continue on with the guys that we have at that position.”
Chapman was the team’s fifth-round pick this year and started the season on the PUP list as a result of a knee injury he suffered during his senior season at Alabama. He was activated from the list a few weeks ago, but hadn’t played in any games.
The Colts previously lost Drake Nevis for the year because of an injury. Clifton Geathers, Lawrence Guy, Martin Tevaseu and Ricardo Matthews are the other defensive linemen currently on the roster.
