On Sunday, word emerged out of the blue that Seahawks starting cornerbacks Richard Sherman and Brandon Browner face four-game suspensions for violating the league’s policy regarding steroids and related substances.
Though the initial report from ESPN seemed to imply that the suspensions would begin immediately, the players have the right to appeal -- and the suspensions won’t commence until the appeals have been exhausted.
Despite the fact that the players and/or their agents thereafter have done plenty of talking about the situation, they’ve issued a statement that they’ll be stating nothing further."To allow our focus to remain on football during the appeal process we will refrain from any further public comments regarding this situation,” the players said in a joint statement issued through the team, via our own Curtis Crabtree (whom we share with KJR). “Thank you for your consideration on this matter.”
Both players remain available to practice and play until the appeal process has concluded. We’ve previously reported that the league wanted to conduct the appeal hearings next week, but that the players have asked for more time.
