Well, now we know why the 49ers were looking at kickers this week.

Their current kicker, David Akers, was limited in practice on Wednesday with a pelvis injury. (Brandon Marshall has a suggested treatment plan for that.)

Though the Niners have yet to sign a replacement, they may need to clear a roster spot for a kicker as they prepare for Sunday’s continuation of the five-quarter draw with the Rams from earlier this month.

Also limited on Wednesday was sackmaster Aldon Smith, who has a shoulder injury. Tight end Delanie Walker missed practice with a ribs/hip injury, and several other players fully participated despite injuries.

Off the injury report, and out of the starting lineup, was quarterback Alex Smith, whose concussion has fully healed. His pride, however, currently is bruised.
