The owner of the Kansas City Chiefs has released a statement about the shocking revelation that Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher killed the mother of his 3-month-old daughter on Saturday morning and then drove to Arrowhead Stadium and killed himself.

In a statement from Kansas City Chiefs Chairman & CEO Clark Hunt that was released by the team’s public relations department, Hunt expressed the same emotions that have been expressed by much of the NFL world.

“The entire Chiefs family is deeply saddened by today’s events, and our collective hearts are heavy with sympathy, thoughts and prayers for the families and friends affected by this unthinkable tragedy,” Hunt said. “We sincerely appreciate the expressions of sympathy and support we have received from so many in the Kansas City and NFL communities, and ask for continued prayers for the loved ones of those impacted. We will continue to fully cooperate with the authorities and work to ensure that the appropriate counseling resources are available to all members of the organization.”

Despite Saturday’s stunning events, the Chiefs are expected to play the Panthers as scheduled at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday.
