Chiefs owner Clark Hunt “deeply saddened by today’s events”

The owner of the Kansas City Chiefs has released a statement about the shocking revelation that Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher killed the mother of his 3-month-old daughter on Saturday morning and then drove to Arrowhead Stadium and killed himself.

In a statement from Kansas City Chiefs Chairman & CEO Clark Hunt that was released by the team’s public relations department, Hunt expressed the same emotions that have been expressed by much of the NFL world.

“The entire Chiefs family is deeply saddened by today’s events, and our collective hearts are heavy with sympathy, thoughts and prayers for the families and friends affected by this unthinkable tragedy,” Hunt said. “We sincerely appreciate the expressions of sympathy and support we have received from so many in the Kansas City and NFL communities, and ask for continued prayers for the loved ones of those impacted. We will continue to fully cooperate with the authorities and work to ensure that the appropriate counseling resources are available to all members of the organization.”

Despite Saturday’s stunning events, the Chiefs are expected to play the Panthers as scheduled at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday.

  1. My girl and I have a 3 month old boy. She doesn’t really give a crap about NFL but when I told her about this just when Florio broke the story, she was keeping up with it all morning. To take away a daughter/mother in front of his daughter and her grandmother is some messed up stuff and obviously there were several factors — serious issues — that weighed down his mind to pull an act so impulsively….like he was on ‘auto-pilot’ throughout the whole duration of these circumstances. I just hope the grandmother can remain strong for her granddaughter and raise a decent kid. It’s not going to be easy……

  2. To play a game the day after is really pathetic of the NfFl commissioner and the Hunt family. Show some respect. If it were their family I’m sure game would be postponed.

  3. Such a tragic event. My prayers, like everyone go out to those left to pick up the pieces and to that poor 3 month old child, now parent less. May God heal them of their loss and pain.
