‘Tis the season for stashing players for the future on the 53-man roster.

The Panthers announced they had promoted two of their own practice squaders, and signed defensive end Mario Addison from the Redskins practice squad.

The back-filling came after they placed safety Sherrod Martin (knee) and defensive end Antwan Applewhite (hamstring) on injured reserve, and released guard Jeremy Bridges.

They promoted running back Armond Smith and offensive lineman Thomas Austin from their practice squad.

Martin tore the ACL and MCL in his right knee in Sunday’s loss to the Chiefs. A former second-round pick who had disappointed, lost his job, then gained it back when Haruki Nakamura was no better, Martin had actually improved over the last month.

The Panthers now have 13 players on injured reserve.
