Jordy Nelson ruled out

The Packers will be down a receiver on Sunday against the Lions.

Wide receiver Jordy Nelson has been ruled out for the contest with the hamstring injury he suffered in last Sunday’s victory over the the Vikings. Nelson previously hurt the hamstring earlier this season, causing him to miss a game, and he’s also battled an ankle injury this year.

Nelson was never expected to play this week, starting with coach Mike McCarthy saying on Monday that he’d be pressed to get on the field against Detroit. He didn’t practice all week and the hope to have Nelson healthy for next week’s possible division-decider against the Bears likely kept the desire to play him this week at a minimum.

Linebacker Clay Matthews, safety Charles Woodson and defensive end C.J. Wilson continue to be out for the Packers. There’s a chance that they’ll get Woodson back for that Chicago game and the team is hopeful that Matthews’ hamstring will finish healing in time for him to rejoin the team as well.
