The tragedy that claimed the life of Cowboys linebacker Jerry Brown entails various levels of blame and guilt. Cowboys nose tackle Josh Brent caused the car crash that claimed Brown’s life, allegedly while Brent was driving drunk.

If Brent was drunk, Brown got in the car with him, either while also intoxicated or completely sober.

But the accident didn’t happen intentionally. So forgiveness should come freely. And it apparently is, from the mother of Jerry Brown.

Via Calvin Watkins of ESPNDallas.com, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told KLRD-FM in Dallas that Brown’s mother has asked that Josh Brent ride with her to Brown’s memorial service.

As we’ve said before, Brent will carry with him for the rest of his life the guilt that comes with the knowledge that he caused the death of his teammate, best friend, roommate. While he must face the consequences of his actions, Brent deserves support and forgiveness. If Jerry Brown’s mother is willing to forgive Brent, everyone else should, too.
