Redskins coach Mike Shanahan, allowing a little optimism, said quarterback Robert Griffin III did “better” at practice Thursday on his sprained right knee.

You could see he was more comfortable,” Shanahan said, via Stephen Whyno of the Washington Times. “He was improved over yesterday.”

Asked if he needed to see Griffin at full strength, Shanahan replied: “You would like to see that, yeah.”

It was the second day in a row of limited work for RG3, who will “probably” be a game-time decision, according to Shanahan.

Backup Kirk Cousins said Wednesday he was told not to discuss his practice reps, and neither Cousins nor Griffin talked to reporters Thursday.

The Redskins have no reason to rush to an announcement, preserving that shred of competitive advantage all coaches seek.
